Blending In

“Looks like a great day for sightseeing,” Brynlin says. “We’re gonna stand out in these clothes. We need to look like tourists.”

“Cypress,” Alyx’s voice instructs, “open the extra pack. The code is 347.”

Cypress opens the pack and takes out four shirts, each with a picture of Eadbhard on the front. She hands one to each of us along with four cardboard camera-looking things.

“Are these disposable cameras?” I drop the strap around my neck. “I’ve heard about these.”

“It’s called a phitonsee here.”

I turn the box over and look through the oval hole. “Fit-en-see? Cool.”

“It stores the image on a chip, which you can use over and over,” Brynlin says.

Cypress reaches in the backpack again and extracts four caps with the Eadbhard logo stitched above the brim.

I take mine, examine it, and pop it on my head. Hey, if I’m gonna die saving the universe, at least I’ll leave behind some cool paraphernalia.
