What Would Mary Do?
What Would Mary Do?
“If as Herod, we fill our lives with things, and again with things; if we consider ourselves so unimportant that we must fill every moment of our lives with actions, when will we have the time to make the long, slow journey across the desert as did the Magi? Or sit and watch the stars as did the shepherds? Or brood over the coming of a child as did Mary?” ~Author Unknown
Now be honest…does that statement sound like you? Or is this one a more accurate description— “I must do everything Christmas-y, and do it well, or Christmas will be ruined!”
It’s as if we think Santa Claus is watching from the North Pole, scratching his head, and saying “I’m afraid we’re going to have to cancel Christmas this year. Your tinsel is crooked, your ornaments are unoriginal, your gingerbread men look like The Walking Dead, and you still haven’t bought that one perfect, life-changing present for everyone on your list.”
But God doesn’t ask for our busyness. He asks for our love, our worship, our devotion to Him. And how do we love, worship, and stay devoted to Him? By putting aside worldly distractions and spending time with Him.
Take the cookies out of the oven, put the wrapping paper down, let the tinsel be crooked, and take a moment to sit quietly in God’s presence. Think of it as the most precious and important gift you will give this year. And the most beautiful part is that when you give this gift to God, He gives you one as well.
May you unwrap Peace and Joy this year for Christmas! Then keep it going throughout the year.
Merry Christmas from Armonia Publishing!
“If the Christ of Christmas is only a nativity scene on your coffee table, He is not alive in you. If the star of Christmas is only an ornament on the Christmas tree, it has nothing to say. But if the Christ of Christmas lives in your heart, He has a message for everyone to hear. The living Christ causes you to cry out in praise and thanksgiving!” ~Jerry Stratton
